In the beginning, the young girl is pure and untouched by any sort of extremities- a blank slate. She sits within herself until a single balloon falls upon her and awakens her curious mind. These shots are taken in single shots to show the slow and clumsy first steps - first thoughts - into an unknown world of infinity.
The last balloon to hit her is a red balloon, symbolizing power, fertility, and seduction. With that, she looks up and finds a single string dangling in front of her. She grabs it and is instantly drawn up to where the balloons once hung. She follows the sting back to the center of all creation. The girl discovers a world of endless possibilities within herself and the outside.
As the film progresses she becomes worn by it. Her once angelic and naive face transforms to a manipulated and worn shadow of her choice to understand all and float higher.
In the end, she find and touches the source - the beginning of forever - (the gold balloon) but she perishes because of it. She is only a weak, timid creature. The girl is unable to grasp the complexity of that world and because of this she falls back into the lapse of simplicity and sleep.
